Dedication
Dedication as it relates to land surveying, is when the easements and rights of way shown on a subdivision plat are officially
dedicated for public use. The subdivision "allotter", or the property owner creating the lots, will place a statement on the plat
dedicating them for public use and then signs the statement in front of a notary. Then when his signature is notarized, and the
governing jurisdiction approves the plat, and then finally files it for record at the courthouse, then the easements and rights
of way established are made permanent.
This is what it means when you hear of an easement or right of way dedication.
