Access Easement

An access easement is a legally recorded right of a person or persons to cross over property owned by someone else. This does not grant ownership of any part of the property you are crossing, but it does give you the right to move across it. It usually has a defined width and lies in a specific location.

This differs from permission to cross someones land, because permission can be revoked at anytime. A legally recorded access easement was agreed to and consideration was given for the right granted.
